Structural Engineering in Brighton
Structural engineering services in Brighton and surrounding areas.
I have 14 years of experience working for consulting structural engineers in the local area, gaining the professional qualification of Associate Member of the Institute of Structural Engineers.
I have extensive experience in the design of all types of domestic and commercial buildings and can provide the following services:-
Structural calculations, together with Building Regulation approval, are needed for the construction of projects on site; for example, building an extension, removing internal walls & adding rooms in a roof space. I can provide calculations for new build projects and internal alterations for both domestic and commercial buildings across Brighton and beyond.
Building surveys often bring to light possible structural problems with a property and may recommend that structural reports be obtained before proceeding with the purchase of a property. I can provide structural reports on specific structural problems for prospective purchasers or property owners. My report sets out the problem in detail, discusses the possible causes and provides options to remedy.
There are many areas in the south east of the country where properties are built on shrinkable clay subsoils, or where they are built on inadequate subsoils, and where subsidence or settlement of the foundations can occur. Significant movement of the foundations can result in subsidence, significant cracks and other related problems becoming evident. Subsidence can also occur due to the presence of trees and hedges, or due to leakage of drains.
Most properties are covered by buildings insurance which includes cover for subsidence, (although there is often a considerable excess to be paid). If a claim is made against the buildings insurance, then a structural engineer’s report is usually necessary, together with a specification setting out works required to remedy. I can prepare structural reports, specifications and all associated investigatory works required (sufficient for insurers to be able to agree a claim).
